Martha Warrington, Viola
Martha has been a member of the Oregon Symphony viola section since 1984. A native Oregonian, Martha grew up in Grants Pass, where her family thrived on year-round rugged outdoor activities including whitewater boating, endurance hiking, and survival camping. Following a year as a Rotary exchange student in The Netherlands, she attended Stanford University and Principia College. She completed her M.A. Degree at the University of Portland.
After graduating from college, Martha became a member of the North Carolina Symphony and soon moved to a position with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. After moving to Toronto, Canada, she was a member of the Cecelia String Quartet, which at that time was Canada’s only all-female professional string quartet. She was also a member of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
Returning to Portland to be near her family, Martha played in the Portland Opera Orchestra and as Principal Violist of the West Coast Chamber Orchestra before joining the Oregon Symphony.
When she is not playing the viola, Martha is usually busy on her computer designing and building websites. She has earned Certificates in Web Design and in Web Technology from Portland State University and is a Macromedia Certified Flash Designer. She owns Digital PDX, a local web development company.
Martha has two children, the youngest just off to college. She has enjoyed the last dozen years or so being a “sports mom.” Martha also enjoys reading, camping, and photography. Among her most cherished experiences is the 93-mile backpacking trip around Mt. Rainier she took in 1990 with her mother and two sisters. With her sister, she has completed the 1997, 1998 and 2000 Portland Marathons.
