Jennifer Arnold, Viola
Violist Jennifer Arnold joined the Oregon Symphony during the fall of 2005. In the spring of 2005 she earned her Professional Studies Degree in viola performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music where she also received her Bachelor of Music Degree in 2003. During her tenure at CIM she studied under the tutelage of Robert Vernon, Principal Violist of The Cleveland Orchestra. In Cleveland, Jennifer was a member of Red (an orchestra), The Akron Symphony, and The Cleveland Pops Orchestra. She has participated in various festivals including the Interlochen Arts Camp, ENCORE School for Strings, The Kennedy Center/National Symphony Orchestra Summer Music Institute, Henry Mancini Institute, National Orchestral Institute, Spoleto Festival USA, and the Britt Chamber Festival. From 2003-2006, Jennifer spent her summers participating in The Youth Orchestra of the Americas Festival based in Washington D.C that brings musicians from a majority of countries in North and South America to share the language of music on tour to underprivileged areas. As principal violist of YOA she has toured and performed in 10 countries across South America and five countries in Europe. In 2006 she also coached and performed chamber music as a faculty member at the newly founded Triada Music Festival in Ludlow, Vermont. Jennifer was the Best Tone Prize Winner during the 1998 Inaugural season of the nationally recognized Sphinx Competition for Black and Latino String Players. She was also a semi-finalist during the 2001 and 2003 competitions. In 2005 she became the first laureate from the competition to win a major professional orchestra position. She has performed with three different orchestras in Carnegie Hall; The New York String Seminar with Jaime Laredo, The Sphinx Chamber Orchestra, and the Paquito D’Rivera Celebration Concert as a member of YOA. Among Jennifer’s most notable achievements, she made her solo debut with The Cleveland Orchestra on January 10, 1999 in their annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Concert.
Jennifer was born in North Royalton, OH and began her studies at age 5 on violin learning both classical and jazz styles.
